Colgate

Crossed over to JB this morning. Alhamdulilah! Traffic was good both ways. Was there to meet Zamri, our packaging engineer based in Kluang, JB. He's a really nice guy, senior in his position. A slightly built man who is extremely helpful.

On Thursday, he & his boss was in Singapore to visit me as well as train me in packaging aspects like materials, conditions, etc. It was dry, but somewhat fun because they allowed me to question policies pertaining to buying. It was really great to hear that all three of us share similar views.

After the training session, I took a lift from him to go to Angsana, where it's reputed to have ALOT of bridal boutiques catering to the Malay community (we only found one, but Alhamdulilah! I was happy with what I saw. Insya Allah, it'll be what Su & me both want!). Before that, we went to his mother-in-law's place to collect some food for his wife & kids. My! Can she cook! Seems that she cooks for Johore's Royal Family! Alhamdulilah!

Back-track to the afternoon: I managed to do Zhr prayers withh Zamri as the Imam between the both of us. Alhamdulilah! He's a religious person who's in tuned and knowledgable about the religion. Not an extremist, but equally staunch in his faith. Alhamdulilah! What luck I have to meet such people!

Today however, things had to be a little more serious. There was a situation in the mill where the carton cases simply couldn't close. I had a call from the team leader in charged of the particular line in the evening. I don't really like to receive calls after work. Most of the work should've been done during the working hours. Personally, to me, unless it's a back-log, there should be no reason why solving the situation should take a second seat to meetings that could be rescheduled or simply taking a few minutes off to address the situation. Anyway, I entertained him. Suddenly his problem becomes mine.

The meeting today at the supplier was good. Very co-operative and informative. After which a lunch in Sanyur. Pleasent. Reminded me of the days in Goodyear. Insya Allah, I would be able to build strong relationships and God Willing, excel in this position.

One thing I've learnt is that the production people, more often than not, are afraid to tell me things. They assume that I am in senior management. And I really hate that. But I guess my age and experiences and probably the way I speak does not have it going for me.

There would be a meeting on Monday with all the team leaders as well as managers. The question today was who would be bearing the cost of extra man-power for the situation of the cases. The team leader suggested that my centre takes the cost. I mentioned that I do not have the authority to decide, but in my opinion, I would not want to, and that the operational line unit would have to absorb it themselves. Simple reason:

I was on top of the situation the moment I learnt of it. Emails and correspondences have been sent, samples of the product have been taken, suppliers were invited to view the situation, specialists were also flown in to assess the situation. In short, I would like to think that I have done the best of my ability to control the situation. Zamri has been very supportive of my position. Actually, the mill does not have a designated packaging engineer. It seems that I have to deal with it myself. Insya Allah, I hope to be able to pull this off! I notice my arrogance has been beginning to seep in now. Insya Allah, I'll be able to control my temper for this and similar situations that would most likely occur! Insya Allah!

After the meeting at the supplier's factory, Zamri, Zati (a packaging engineer in the Kluan mill) and me went on a sight-seeing tour of Singapore. It was pretty fun. It's weird that no one has brought Zamri around while he was here. Insya Allah, I sincerely hope that both of them had a good time! We prayed at Abdul Gaffor Mosque. Oh, Zati brought her digi cam and we all took photos! Wahaha! We're supposed to be working!!! We managed to take some pics of a tourist passing through as well. Alhamdulilah!

Then we were off to Geylang Serai, parked at DA and walked to Joo Chiat where the both of them were mesmerised by the amount of cloths there! Went to the shop Faizah, the tailer whhere Su & I chose to tailor her clothes to check on the progress and whether there was a problem with the material. Bought both Zamri & Zati a bottle of minyak attar @ SGD$1 each! Alhamdulilah! Something cheap & good that I can give to my buddies (remembering that today is the 2nd time I've met Zamri & the 1st time I'm seeing Zati). Zamri chose "Drakar" & Zati chose "4000 Thousand Flowers" (I told her that I use that scent).

After that, we were off to see the other side of Geylang: the red light district. It was an eye-opener for them both. Zati had always thought that Singapore was clean and controlled. In the car (Zamri wanted me to drive), we both had a conversation about the political playing field in Singapore and she was so surprised that news is controlled here. When sh saw the "working-girls" in Geylang, she mentioned that this was the other side of Singapore she never knew existed. On hind sight, we shouldn't have made fun of these people. I feel bad now because I passed funny comments and it does seem that I have judged. Insya Allah, He will forgive me of my stupidity.

We then went to the beach where I got off to go to Su's place. Insay Allah, they will manage to find their way back to Kluang safely.

All in all, it's been a great day. Alhamdulilah for that!
